Breakfast at the Athens Gate can be enjoyed while admiring the breathtaking view of the Acropolis or the Temple of Olympian Zeus. The buffet features Greek products like sun dried tomatoes, “dolmadakia” (stuffed vine leaves), raisins, sesame ring bun (koulouri), two types of bread, eggs (fried, omelet) with bacon and a variety of cereals. These are some of the 38 items included in the breakfast buffet. Guests can choose among four types of coffee, six types of tea as well or hot chocolate.

The traditional local corner is a separate section of the Theartemis breakfast buffet and is decorated with traditional elements. There are local herbal beverages, which alternate daily, such as “malotyra”, “diktamo”, linden, fliskouni””, mixed (“sarantadendri”) and sage. Guests will also find feta cheese, gruyere, yoghurt, two kinds of local olive varieties, rusks, dried nuts, raisins, figs, dates and more. There are also various sweets such as “kalitsounia” (with sweet myzithra cheese), pies of Sfakia, tahini with bread and sugar, halva, “loukoumades” (honey dumplings), “myzithropitakia” (small pies with “”myzithra”” cheese), “lychnarakia”, “diples” (fritters), biscuits, “kserotigana”, “ryzogalo” (rice pudding), “tiganites” (pancakes) and three kinds of spoon sweets.

Tradition and local products together with grandmother’s recipes make the perfect combination of flavors for an exceptional breakfast. Guests will start their day with a hearty Cretan breakfast that includes fresh bread that can be accompanied by fragrant honey, homemade jams and fresh butter from sheep and goat’s milk. Recommended are the hot “tiganites” (pancakes), the fresh milk, the local cheeses, the yoghurt with fruits or the traditional pies with greens from the village. All these go perfectly well with fruit salads and fresh juices. The ingredients are sourced from the hotel’s vegetable garden as well as from small, local producers of Asterousia.

The rich breakfast buffet at the Elaion restaurant includes a wide variety of Cretan and Greek dishes in general. Breakfast starts with various bakery products like fresh bread, biscuits and cakes. Healthy diet fans will find plenty of fresh and dried fruits, natural juices, fruit salads and vegetables. Dairy Cretan products such as “anthotyro” and “myzithra” cheeses and yoghurt are also served, as well as cheeses from other parts of Greece like “manouri” and “feta”, paired with eggs and cold cuts such as “apaki”. Olive oil from Crete, olives and olive paste are basic staples. Traditional pies and sweets such as pies from Sfakia, “kalitsounia” with greens or myzithra and “lychnarakia”, “ryzogalo” (rice pudding) and semolina pudding (halva) are offered. Spreads include jams, honey, tahini and fresh butter. One should also try traditional drinks like “soumada” (bitter almonds), “vissinada” (sour cherries) and herbal infusions such as chamomile and “malotira” (mountain tea), handmade “moustokouloura” (cookies with grape must) and homemade orange marmalade.

The a la carte Greek breakfast at the hotel consists of freshly squeezed orange juice from local oranges, coffee, (incl. fresh Greek coffee), or local mountain tea. Spreads like fresh butter and honey from producers from Chania and handmade jams are paired with fresh, whole wheat bread with dried nuts, baked on the premises. Guests have the option to choose among free range eggs and bacon, fruits and vegetables, a cheese platter (gruyere, “malaka”, “myzithra” and “anthotyro”, feta cheese and yoghurt, or a pies selection (meatpie, cream-filled “bougatsa” and two types of “kaltsounia”), all homemade from traditional Greek recipes with fresh phyllo dough.

The Taleton Eco Boutique offers a Greek breakfast which includes handmade breads, buns (sesame, orange with ouzo and raisins) paired with spreads like honey, tahini, local butter and homemade jams. Guests may try the local treat “lalaggia”, rusks with anise and barley mini rusks, free range eggs (boiled, fried, omelettes) or “kagiana” (scrambled eggs and tomato with “syglino” pork of Mani. There are also cold cuts, fresh fruits and juices. Dairy products include traditional yoghurt, fresh milk, gruyere and feta cheese. Local products like the olives and olive oil produced by the hotel, or the tomatoes and cucumber, are recommended. Sweet treats include “pasteli” (honey and sesame traditional sweet), the homemade cake with orange and dried nuts, and the baked apples of Laconia with yoghurt and syrup. There are also handmade pies (cheese pie, “bougatsa” pie) and beverages like mountain tea (from Taygetos), sage, chamomile, linden, and Greek coffee among others.

The Greek breakfast starts with barley rusks, traditional white bread, multi grain black bread (from the traditional bakery), jams (homemade from fresh fruits), local honey, biscuits, various kinds of cookies, multigrain bread sticks and freshly baked cakes. The local eggs are cooked in various ways like “strapatsada” (scrambled with tomato) and various omelettes with vegetables, paired with cherry tomatoes and olives. Various freshly baked pies are served (with greens, cheeses, zucchini). As for cheeses, guests can try “ksinomyzithra”, “kefalograviera” from Paros, “ladotyri”, “manouri” and local feta. Drinks and beverages include orange or grapefruit juice, coffees, tea, Greek coffee and herbal teas (sage, marjoram, mint or verbena), paired with “pasta flora” jam tart made with homemade jams.

There is olive oil and olives produced from local olive groves, fresh bread from a traditional neighborhood bakery, a selection of cakes, handmade dough pies with fresh butter, chocolate pie and tahini halva. Guests may also try the yoghurt, the compotes, olive biscuits, juices and herbal infusions from the garden (mint, spearmint, lavender and marjoram.) There is also a selection of cold cuts, cheeses, fruits, and eggs. Traditional specialties include the famous “tzatziki” sauce (yoghurt, cucumber and garlic), the “taramas” (cod roe’s eggs spread) and pickles accompanied by tomatoes and cucumbers!

Guests will find spoon sweets (quince, bitter orange, orange, fig) as well as local traditional sweets, namely “stafidopana” (with raisins), “kalitsounia” (with sweet cheese) and “kserotigana” (fritters with honey). Thyme honey and carob honey are integral parts of the local Cretan cuisine. Apart from thyme honey from Rhodes, highly recommended is the traditional “melekouni””(sesame, honey, orange and almond paste), As for beverages, there is Greek coffee, “alisfakia” (sage tea) “diktamo” (herbal tea), black mountain tea and chamomile.

The Greek breakfast buffet is based on local products from Chalkidiki and Macedonia in general. They include fresh village-style bread from the neighborhood bakery, flower honey from the region, boiled eggs and omelet. There is also Greek butter, yoghurt, jams, compote, seasonal fruits, and salad with tomatoes, cucumber and homemade green olives. Guests will also find cheeses (“kasseri”, feta, gruyere), sausages, cheese pie, “bougatsa” pie, or pies with wild greens. The breakfast buffet also offers beverages such as coffee, mountain tea, orange juice, milk and Greek coffee brewed the traditional way.
