‘Greek Breakfast’ Program Celebrates Women’s Role in Gastronomy

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the “Greek Breakfast” program was presented at the Museum of Cycladic Art in a special event organized by the Ministry of Tourism and the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels (HCH). This initiative by the HCH connects the primary and tertiary sectors, highlighting the rich culinary heritage of Greece.

The Minister of Tourism, Ms. Olga Kefalogianni, emphasized in her address that initiatives such as the “Greek Breakfast” reaffirm the country’s commitment to offering a tourism product based on sustainability, cultural heritage, and authenticity. She praised this initiative by the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels (HCH), highlighting the crucial role of Greek gastronomy in strengthening local economies and preserving the unique characteristics of each region. She also underscored the importance of women’s presence in the fields of gastronomy and tourism, recognizing the contribution of female local producers in maintaining tradition, fostering innovation, and boosting the local economy.

The President of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels, Mr. Alexandros Vasilikos, stated: “In collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, we have created yet another opportunity for ‘taste diplomacy’—this time with a ‘female essence.’ It is no coincidence that we say hospitality has a feminine nature. Hospitality is not just a job; it requires values such as care, empathy, and inclusivity—values inherently linked to the female nature, making our world a better place.”

At the same time, hospitality generates economic value. More than a quarter of hotels have embraced the HCH’s “Greek Breakfast” initiative, directly connecting the hotel industry with the primary sector. In doing so, Greek hotels become the best ambassadors for high-quality primary production and Greek gastronomy.

“For this reason, our goal, through outreach initiatives like today’s event, is to further promote the ‘Greek Breakfast’ and highlight the added value of authenticity in the Greek tourism product.”

The event was attended by notable figures, including Deputy Minister of Tourism Elena Rapti, female ambassadors, tourism experts, and local entrepreneurs.

Guests had the opportunity to enjoy a private tour of the exhibition “Cycladic Women: Unknown Stories of Women of the Cyclades”, which highlighted untold aspects of women’s lives in Cycladic culture.

The event concluded with a tasting of selected “Greek Breakfast” products from various regions of Greece, curated by renowned Chef Ms. Argiro Koutsou, with the presence of local producers. The event was moderated by gastronomy journalist and Chef Ms. Eleni Psychouli.
