Finally, the healthy selections include fruit salad with fresh fruits, yoghurt with honey and cereals. There are also jams, made with fresh fruits, and a list of beverages including Cretan herbal teas such as “malotira”, freshly squeezed juices and a wide selection of coffees.

The Cretan “sfouggato” (omelet with zucchinis) is flavored with fresh oregano and is paired with cabbage pies, or “nerati” with “ksinomyzithra” cheese. Traditional sweet delicacies (pies with “myzithra” cheese, “anevata kaltsounia” or “”lychnarakia”) are offered, next to beverages like mountain tea, “diktamo” and sage.

Other sweet treats include the traditional “ksirotigana” (fritters with honey), the “bougatsa” pie (with savory cheese or with sweet cream and cinnamon), the “moustalevria” pudding made with grape must, or the “ryzogalo” with fresh milk. The perfect ending to a rich breakfast is the combination of traditionally brewed Greek coffee and fresh, hot “loukoumades”, (dumplings with honey and sesame.)

This is a local product from Chania, usually offered in traditional weddings. Its main ingredients are flour, water, salt and “ksynomyzithra” cheese. Another specialty breakfast dish is the Cretan “sfouggato”, a traditional Cretan omelet with eggs, zucchinis, tomatoes, peppers etc. Guests will also find herbal beverages such as “diktamo” and sage, olives and olive oil from a producer from Crete, “anthogalo”, a Cretan creamy cheese rich in fat and slightly sour, and “myzithra”, a soft cheese rich in fat with which the sweet pies “myzithropitakia” are made.

The Residence Villas adopts the philosophy of Cretan gastronomy and offers guests the unique flavors of Cretan cuisine at its breakfast buffet. Apart from coffee, guests will find beverages from local herbs such as “diktamo” (also called “”erondas”), chamomile, mountain tea and sage. Orange juice and sour cherry juice complete the list of beverages. Other products served are fresh bread, olives, fruits, vegetables and cheeses (feta, gruyere) from local producers. The handmade biscuits and cookies with sesame and walnuts hold a special place together with the pies; there are sweet ones, such as walnut pie or pie with raisins, yoghurt pie, orange pie or carrot pie and savory ones, such as cheese pie and aubergine pie, all made with local virgin olive oil on the premises. The “ryzogalo” (rice pudding), the wheat with milk and the “tiganites” (pancakes) add a special touch to breakfast while the yoghurt with thyme honey or dried plums or raisins and peanuts make a for a nutritious and healthy start to one’s day.
